Lazy people irritate their employers, like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes. (Proverbs 10:26 NLT)
Have you ever sat around a campfire only to have the smoke blow in your face? It makes it difficult to breath and the smoke burns your eyes. Most people either cover their face to endure it while hoping the wind shifts or move to sit in another seat. Smoke in the eyes is irritating. Interesting that King Solomon, the wisest man in history, compares lazy workers with the experience of smoke in their employers eyes. Solomon would know, he employed hundreds of thousands in his kingdom, one of the wealthiest of all time. Getting ahead in your job, getting that promotion or raise, or just having favor with your employer takes hard work. Those who work hard are a joy to their employers and are often rewarded. But those who are lazy are as irritating as smoke in the eyes. Hard work doesn’t always gurantee success right away. But I can assure you that laziness in your workplace is a surefire way to frustrate your employer. Are you blowing smoke in your bosses face today?
