Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. (Proverbs 23:4-5 NLT)
Money is a huge part of life. There’s no doubt about it. Trouble is, it can become a huge focus in life. An all consuming focus in life. Just a little bit more. Just one more zero or one more comma. And really it’s endless and empty.
Sure, money can buy a lot of fun things and experiences. Even enable one to do a lot of good. But the pursuit of money, clouded over by the goals can cause you to miss the beauty of life and the journey itself.
Be wise enough to know when to quite:
+ daily so the mighty dollar doesn’t win the day, always getting your best, while leaving your family and friends in want of your most precious commodity – your time
+ weekly so the world doesn’t always gets it’s way, filling your schedule and widening your workweek, leaving you longing for rest, for peace, for enjoyment of all the other things that you consider more important than the bottom line
+ seasonally so society doesn’t steer your soul astray, telling you what’s best for you and your future, leaving you frustrated with life and wishing you had a better trajectory.
The pursuit of wealth can consume our entire life if we are not wise enough to know when to stop. Quiting daily, weekly, and seasonally provides a much needed break to align our lives around what is really most important. It disarms the demands others place upon us and empowers us to discern the direction our priorities could take us. To see the future of both plausible paths and decide for ourselves the journey and outcome we choose to pursue.
